Kray Kray Krazyyy!

A nod to the painted crayfish

This was done in acrylic on a canvas panel. I think it was in 2011. I remember seeing an episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, when he visited Australia. One of the things he ate was painted crayfish. I was curious because I think he made a comment about the gorgeous coloring on it, so I googled the little guy.

Now this was my kind of critter! It was a walking masterpiece! So I thought I’d make pay my respects and admiration.

I’m addicted to color, I’ve mentioned this before. So I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to go to town on this piece. Most of the canvas is the head and thorax of the crayfish, while the rest of the canvas (upper left corner) is a tail. I used reference pictures to bring up the best characteristics and colors I’ve seen on this animal. I hope you don’t mind how I express myself :).
