#AtoZChallenge: Jackalopes…yup

Because why not?

Light Guardian, digital painting

Jackalopes have always been one of the most fascinating creatures I've ever heard of. I mean a rabbit with antlers…if that's not the most bizarre thing I've ever seen, what exactly is? Oh yeah… platypus (and that thing's real).

So I decided to play around with it. It's creature of fantasy so I officially made it one, with a pretty sweet job. As always, I just kind of let my instincts guide me and when it came to deciding what to hang from the antlers, I just ended up going with a lantern ( hey, reindeer don't need to be the only ones with illumination!). Hence, I entitled it “Light Guardian”. Consider it a guardian of whatever remains of the light left in the world (which can be what you would associate light with, like faith, hope, goodness…a lightbulb).

Of course, i also took liberties with the appearance of the antlers as well. Setting a background to this was incredibly daunting, so I just left it white. There were a couple steps I probably took the long way with, like the eye and placement of the seal, but that's what happens when you go with the flow (and run out of layers).

You'll see what I mean if you look at the time-lapse video I created on Youtube:

The song I set it to is “Feel Good Inc” by Gorillaz…I don't really have an explanation for it, I just couldn't think of a better song to use. I'll get better with that if I do more videos!

This took about 8 hours to do. Hence it's lateness for the challenge, in spite of my efforts to get this done yesterday. But the delay was totally worth it!
